Michael Black, Esq.

“As someone who has spent decades helping families navigate the complexities of divorce and custody issues, I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact mediation can have. Mediation allows families to resolve their disputes with dignity and respect, outside of the emotional and financial toll of the courtroom. I’m honored to be part of the PowerHouse Mediation team, where our approach prioritizes the well-being of all parties and focuses on finding sustainable, long-term solutions. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help families move forward with clarity and cooperation.”                       –  Michael Black |PowerHouse

Biography

Michael Black joins the PowerHouse team as an experienced ADR professional. Mike will be taking on a limited number of mediation matters, focusing on high asset dissolution and post-decree matters.

Mike brings a wealth of experience to the dispute resolution field. He practiced law for 45 years and developed an expertise in family law. He has extensive experience in real estate, bankruptcy, business formation and acquisitions, along with a broad range of civil litigation matters. His background makes him well-suited to provide the kind of insight and knowledge people expect from PowerHouse neutrals. Beginning in 2015, Mike concentrated his practice exclusively in family law dispute resolution services, until closing his practice at the end of 2023. He continues to serve on the Court of Appeals Family Law Mediation Panel. He now joins PowerHouse as a neutral, focusing solely on high asset and complex family law matters.

Mike is respected and recognized as a leader in his field. He has been recognized as a Minnesota Super Lawyer every year since 2006 and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 2011. Mike was honored by Best Lawyers as Lawyer of the Year in Family Mediation in 2014.

Beyond his professional roles, Mike has been dedicated to the legal community. He acted as a volunteer attorney for southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services from 1979 to 2015 and has served on the Ramsey County Volunteer Mediation panel since its inception. In 2016 he was recognized with the Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award by the Ramsey County Bar Association.

As a Rule 114 Qualified Neutral, Mike is exceptionally equipped to navigate high asset and complex family law disputes with diligence, focus and creativity.
